The European Commission is required to
provide a report on whether or not to maintain cadmium in the exemption list
of Directive 2000/53 on End-of-Life Vehicles. In order to assist the
Commission to take an adequate decision, the SUBAT project, coordinated by
AVERE, aims to make a comprehensive assessment of commercially available and
forthcoming battery technologies. The SUBAT project started January 2004 and
closes end of March 2005, and is funded by the EU Commission 6th Framework
Programme. Through this multidisciplinary approach, SUBAT will provide an
overall view of all aspects of the automotive battery market. The overall structure of the project is
deployed in around the following objectives: 1 Analysis of the offer: An exhaustive
technical assessment with comparisons of the different technologies available. 2 Analysis of the demand: An economical
assessment to determine the viability of the electric vehicle in the market
by type of battery. 3 Analysis of the environmental impact: A
complete life-cycle analysis resulting in a score indicating the degree to
which they are considered to be 'sustainable'. Although many of the deliverables are
confidential, the methodology and the general conclusions will be presented at
this conference. Entrance to this workshop is free. Pre-registration is required prior to 5.4.2005
at the AVERE booth located D124. |
