Abstract :
Modern components are now so fast that the level of EMI generation becomes a real problem with increased switching frequencies. The next improvement of high frequency converters has to be switching loss reduction by taking account of nonnegligible switching times. The preliminary part of this study deals with the commutation mechanisms compatible with quasi lossless switching. In the main part of the paper, the authors show that so-called quasi resonant converters are not the only solution, and exhibit two other families of DC/DC converters using appropriate switches. Their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, are studied and compared, including experimental results of several breadboards.
