Abstract :
Presented are experimental results obtained using a constant-temperature oil bath as the ambient for thermal resistance measurements of molded integrated circuit packages. The technique allows the rapid, reproducible determination of the maximum power-handling capabilities of most IC packages. The method is a valuable one for use either as a quality control tool, or for the comparison of the relative merits of different package types.
