Contributions

The Organizing Committee invites you to participate in the Symposium by presenting a paper within the delineated framework. In addition to the main topics, papers on other important subjects of the central Symposium themes will be considered for the inclusion in the Scientific Programme.

Authors interested in submitting a paper are kindly requested to send a  synopsis of two A4-pages at least.  Files in .pdf or .doc format should be addressed by e-mail to the Symposium Secretariat before October 31st, 2005.

The synopsis should be clearly headed with the title of the paper, the reference topic and eventual further keywords. The content should outline the subject along with a brief summary of the substance of the presentation, the techniques employed, the latest results in the field at issue, possible links with earlier studies, the goals achieved and the original contribution given. Key formulas, figures, tables and reference list are well-accepted.

Furthermore, on the first separate page authors should indicate their name, accreditation and address -evidencing the principal author for further correspondence- together with the title of the paper.

Authors will be informed by e-mail about the acceptance of their paper by January 15th, 2006. Selected authors will be requested to deliver their full length manuscript not later than March 31st, 2006.

Venue

SPEEDAM 2006 International Symposium will be held in Taormina, at the “Palazzo dei Congressi”.

Founded  in 358 B.C. by Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse, Taormina had changing fortunes throughout its thousand years of history. Its first Greek name Tauromenion means built up in Tauro area, the mountain upon which it rose but it is also linked to the legend of Minotaur, frequently represented in ancient coins. Under Romans, Tauromenium enjoyed a great period of splendour so that many famous noble families built luxurious villas to stay there permanently.

Another evidence of  its historical background is the famous "Ancient Theatre", built by the Greeks and restructured in the Roman age. During Middle Age the city was destroyed by the Arabs and in 1078 it was taken by the Normans, under whom it flourished and became the capital of Sicily.

Today Taormina is famous all over the world not only for its ancient monuments and ruins of roman villas, but also for its irresistible fascination and the incomparable beauty of the landscape: eyes can space from the bay of Naxos to the Italian coast and to Etna, the most active volcano in Europe.
