Abstract :
While the calculation of electronic circuits is based on known
elements, their design is often made difficult by the choice of
their protection.The known elements are reviewed, and a new
parameter Vcew is introduced, which permits a better
characterization of the service rendered by a transistor.Various
transistor-aided commutation circuits, and voltage limiting circuits
are illustrated, and differences between both types of circuits are
discussed, to give the designer essential elements in making his
