Abstract :
Power transistors characteristics used in switching circuits and the
snubber performance are considered together with GTO thyristors
where the effect of nominal voltage on the thickness and
conductivity is shown. Reduced losses with higher switching
frequency achieved in modern units, as well as division of losses
into several sources for lower thermal resistance for cooling
efficiency, and steps in converter development are discussed.
