Abstract :
From 1 W to 1 MW, the power electronics component is a switch. After
analysis of the needs and the technological progresses the author
gives some examples of future trends: smart power, low and high
voltage complete integrated function, and the important evolution of
some discrete component to the integrated complete switch. The
medium power devices will evolve in three directions, MOS, bipolar
and MOS-BIP combination. The soft commutation is a source of
progresses for high power.
