Abstract :
A "stealth" approach is one of the challenges facing the designers of inductors for propulsion using the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) process. The geometrical configurations adopted in order to eliminate leakage fields in MHD propulsion systems will for example be toroidal, solenoidal, dipolar or squirrel-cage. The design of a propulsion system in the form of part inductors that are independent of one another will permit operation in a degraded regime and improve the magnetic signature of the ship. In the event of a changeover from a superconducting winding to an inductor module, a screening system (to be devised) would ensure continuity of this stealth approach.
