Deadline for Receipt of AbstractsAn abstract may be submitted either as hard copy or electronically. Hard copy submissions are to be mailed to the conference office, electronic submissions should be submitted via the web (but not both). Deadline for both hard copy and web-based submission of abstracts is June 24, 2002. Click here to submit your paper electronically. The following instructions are for hard copy submission:
Abstracts for review must clearly state:
THE DEGREE TO WHICH THE ABSTRACT DEALS WITH THESE ISSUES WILL STRONGLY AFFECT WHETHER THE PAPER IS SELECTED. The most common cause of rejection of submitted papers is a lack of specific results. Only work that has not been previously published at the time of the conference will be considered. 3. 50 Word Abstract for the IEDM WWW Home Page (5 hard copies plus a 3-1/2" IBM compatible disk) This abstract is a brief synopsis (50 words) of your paper. Accepted paper abstracts will be used in preparing the IEDM home page. (www.ieee.org/conference/iedm). The abstract should be prepared on a separate page with the title of the paper, authors, affiliations, city, state, country (if not USA) at the top. Please send to: Phyllis Mahoney Facsimiles are not acceptable. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by August 19, 2002. They will receive an author's kit, which will include instructions on the preparation of an extended abstract of no more than 4 pages (including figures) for the Technical Digest and CD-ROM of the 2002 IEDM. This abstract must be submitted to the printer by September 24, 2002. Publication in the digest in no way precludes later publication of a fuller account of the work in another journal. The paper must be presented at the conference by one of the listed authors. Student Presentation of Papers EncouragedBEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD:Papers presented by students and based on their own work will be considered for the Best Student Paper Award IF THE ABSTRACT IS IDENTIFIED AS A STUDENT PAPER AT THE TIME OF SUBMISSION. The best student paper award is decided on the abstract, final paper and presentation. The award presentation will be made at the 2003 IEDM. New requirement: In order for a paper to be considered for the best student paper award, the student's professor must provide a letter of recommendation clearly outlining the student's individual contribution to the work.
STUDENT SPEAKER TRAVEL ASSISTANCE:Limited financial assistance for travel and registration is available to students presenting papers. ASSISTANCE MUST BE REQUESTED WHEN THE ABSTRACT IS SUBMITTED. Enclose a cover letter with the abstract stating that it is a student paper and that you are applying for travel assistance. Further information on travel assistance will be included in the student's author kit. Late News Papers are not eligible for travel assistance or the student paper award. Pre-Conference PublicityThe accepted one-page abstracts and supporting information will be used for IEDM publicity purposes and portions of these abstracts may be quoted in pre-conference magazine articles and also via the Web. IF THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AUTHORS MUST INDICATE THIS IN THE COVER LETTER OR ON THE WEB SITE WHEN SUBMITTING THE ABSTRACTS FOR REVIEW. Agreement not to Pre-Publish AbstractsSubmission of an abstract for review and subsequent acceptance is considered by the committee as an agreement that the work will not be placed in the public domain by the author prior to the conference. Accepted papers or significant portions of the work may not be placed in the public domain prior to the conference. Violation will be grounds for automatic withdrawal of the paper by the conference committee. FURTHER INFORMATION
