About this Conference

Synopsis
Phosphate mining is the third largest mining industry of the world in terms of annual tonnage. However, papers on phosphate mining and mineral processing are usually rare at most of the major mining as well as mineral processing conferences, both nationally and internationally. The only conferences of international significance focusing on phosphate mineral processing were the FIPR co-sponsored Engineering Foundation Conferences: Beneficiation of Phosphates I and II, Palm Coast, Florida, December 1993 and 1998. Research has been active since the last conference on the following important issues: 1) flotation efficiency, 2) processing of carbonaceous phosphates, 3) process monitoring and control, 4) tailings disposal and environmental concerns, 5) dealing with declining ore grade, and 6) novel processing techniques and machinery. A survey of the participants to Beneficiation of Phosphates II indicated strong support for making this conference a regular international event, with a three-year interval being most preferable.

United Engineering Foundation (UEF) Conferences Fellowships Program
The United Engineering Foundation sponsors a Conference Fellowship Program. Applicants are limited to those currently active in engineering or related professions with a direct interest in the conference topic. They must be within ten years of their first professional degree at the time of their applications submitted. The fellowship is sufficient to cover the conference registration fee and onsite room and board. Transportation expenses are not included. Application information may be obtained from the WWW or by fax from the Foundation (1-212-591-7441) and must be submitted by August 31, 2001.

United Engineering Foundation (UEF) Conferences
The United Engineering Foundation sponsors this conference. The UEF Conferences Program was established in 1962 to provide an opportunity for the exploration of problems and issues of concern to engineering from many disciplines. The format of the conference provides morning and evening sessions in which major presentations are made. Available time is included during the afternoons for ad hoc meetings and informal discussions and is designed to enhance rapport among participants and promote dialogue on the developments of the meeting. We believe the UEF conferences have been instrumental in generating ideas and disseminating information to a greater extent than is possible through more conventional meetings. All participants are expected to contribute actively to the discussions.
