Meet Me in St. Louis

The 1997 Power Electronics Specialists Conference (PESC®), sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society, will be held at the Regal Riverfront Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri, USA from June 22-27, 1997.

The PESC '97 Organizing Committee invites you to St. Louis for what is sure to be an outstanding conference. PESC is one of the major annual conferences of the IEEE Power Electronics Society. It provides a forum for international specialists in power electronics to present and discuss papers on forward-looking topics. Engineers from industry, academia and government will present and discuss research and development results in power electronic systems, circuit topologies, devices, control theory, simulation and modeling, utility applications, transportation applications, power quality, EMC/EMI and motor drives.

New this year to PESC will be the "Photovoltaic Cannon" Student Competition. In this contest, students are required to use concepts from many area of power electronics to shoot a projectile as far as possible using only energy from a light source.

In order to maintain PESC's reputation as the leading conference in power electronics R&D, the Technical Program Committee is working hard to select among more than 440 submissions to create the technical program. In addition to the technical program, three Professional Education sessions will be held on June 22, to provide tutorials on topics of wide interest. Evening rap sessions on Tuesday continue a long PESC tradition. Continuing Education Unit credit for the tutorials will be available to those who want this formal record of their professional education.

St. Louis will impress you as an attractive site. The hotel is a landmark near the famous Gateway Arch, and is convenient to rail airport connections and all downtown attractions. The St. Louis Zoo is widely known as one of the finest in North America. Interactive museums such as the Science Center, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, and the museum at the Arch are popular activities. A guest program will help spouses and family members enjoy their time; both guided tours and free mini-bus service will be provided for guests. There will be a Baseball Night at the adjacent stadium to see the division-champion St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis offers excellent industrial activities as well. On Friday after the technical program is complete, several half-day and full-day industrial tours will be arranged in the area.
