WELCOME TO WPET '96

The IEEE Power Electronics Society and the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society invite you to participate in the 1996 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics in Transportation (WPET '96). Advance registration is now being accepted for the Workshop. The Workshop will be held on Oct. 24-25, 1996, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn, MI, USA. Recognizing the importance and growth expectations of power electronics in transportation, the PEL and VT Societies of the IEEE desire to promote more interaction in this area. This workshop follows Convergence 96 to be held at Detroit, Oct. 21-23, 1996, an unique event which brings together world leaders in the transportation and electronic industries to discuss the present issues and future development in transportation electronics.

The workshop is intended for engineers involved in the research and development of automotive power electronic systems. The committee has organized the workshop to provide an informal atmosphere for participants to discuss the state of the art and future developments in power electronics pertaining to transportation. This year we have a total of 29 papers. Highlights of the workshop include a symposium and panel discussion on "Future Automotive E/E System Architecture"©, a panel discussion on "Electric/ Hybrid Electric Vehicles", four paper sessions, a poster session/reception and a luncheon speech by Mr. Trevor Jones, National Academy of Engineering and Chair of Standing Committee to Review the Research Programs of the PNGV.
