PESC `02 Site Selection The Power Electronics Society Meetings Committee announces it final solicitation of proposals to select the location for the 2002 Power Electronics Specialist Conference, PESC '02. PESC rotates among North American, European, and Far East locations. PESC '02 is slated for the Far East and interested groups are required to submit a candidate location proposal no later than September 1, 1996. The PELS Meetings Committee will select the PESC location based upon the reviews of the sites. The process insures that all potential sites are evaluated in an open forum. The selection process contains four basic steps: solicitation, review, discussion, and site selection. Proposal Solicitation Proposals must be submitted to the PELS Meetings Committee Chair, Kevin Fellhoelter (addressed at end of article), prior to September 1, 1996. It should clearly state the proposed location, proposed conference dates and conference advocate. Important evaluation criteria includes a description of the proposed conference facilities which includes the number and size of the meeting rooms (school room seating), the size of the Plenary Session meeting room, and a description of the hotel/dormitory facility. Conference facility charges and estimated lodging costs should also be submitted. This information is used to evaluate the suitability of the candidate site to host the conference. Other peripheral information is beneficial, for example weather conditions, commercial air routes, tourist attractions and potential local industry support (for tours, financial support, etc.). Proposal Review The proposals will be summarized and categorized in a spreadsheet by the PELS Meetings Committee Chair and will be discussed at a special meeting of the Meetings Committee held coincident with INTELEC `96 in Boston in October. At that meeting, each site advocate will have the opportunity to make a presentation of their candidate site to the entire committee. Proposal Discussion After all proposal reviews are complete, the PELS Meetings Committee will hold a closed discussion of all proposals to identify any open issues. Site Selection Procedure Committee members will select the site by ballot. The ballot package will be distributed by mail, and will contain a summary of all site location proposals. The results of the ballot will be made known to all site advocates, typically three months after the 1996 INTELEC conference in October. PESC `02 site location proposals should be submitted to the PELS Meetings Committee Chair, Kevin Fellhoelter, c/o Lucent Technologies, P. O. Box 2147, Coppell, TX 75019-8147, USA.
