Dr. Fred C. Lee

1989 William E. Newell Power Electronics Award Recipient

The recipient of the 13th Annual William E. Newell Power Electronics Award is Fred C. Lee, James S. Tucker Professor and Director of the Virginia Power Electronics Center of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Lee received the B.S. degree from Chen-King University, Taiwan, in 1968, then entered Duke University, where his studies were concentrated in the field of power electronics. After receiving the M.S. and Ph.D. in 1971 and 1974, respectively, Dr. Lee was on the technical staff of TRW for three years.

Since joining the VPI faculty in 1977, Lee has supervised 21 M.S. and 10 Ph.D. students. He has published over 60 refereed papers, more than 110 technical papers in conferences, and over 70 industry and government reports.
