A number of sessions on micro- and nano-technologies are organised within the CAS 2001 programme. Each group of oral and /or poster sessions has certain specific features, as explained below.
SESSIONS ON "NANOSCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY"

Are taking place on 10th of October 2001 and start with the invited paper of Mihail Roco, Senior Adviser for Nanotechnology at the National Science Foundation, USA. |
![]() |
Are organised by "Centre of Nanotechnologies" from IMT-Bucharest, headed by Irina Kleps (irinak@imt.ro). This unit is sponsored by a Romanian grant for Centres of Excellence. |

The presence of some participants is supported from project INCO-COPERNICUS No 977037 "SILICON BASED LIGHT EMITTING DIODES FOR OPTICAL INTERCONNECTS" (SBLED), financed by the European Commission. |
![]() |
These sessions are accompanied by a Poster Exhibition presenting the institutions from the Romanian network for nanotechnologies (this is called MICRONANOTECH, and it is recognised by the European Commission). |
![]() |
It is the intention of the organisers to publish the full-length papers in a volume. |
WORKSHOP ON "MICROMACHINED MICROWAVE DEVICES AND CIRCUITS"
![]() |
It takes place on 9th and 10th of October 2001. |
![]() |
It is organised jointly by IMT-Bucharest (Alexandru Muller, alexm@imt.ro) and LAAS, Toulouse (Robert Plana). |
![]() |
It is partly supported by the research INCO Project No 977131 "MICROMACHINED CIRCUITS FOR MICROWAVE AND MILLIMETER WAVE APPLICATIONS (MEMSWAVE), financed by the European Commission. |
![]() |
Demonstration of software for simulation and design of micromachined microwave and millimeter wave circuits (Zeeland Inc. and Coventor Inc.) accompanies the workshop (on 9th of October). |
![]() |
It is the intention of the organisers to publish the full-length papers in a special volume. |
![]() |
The participation is still open for "late-news" papers (contact the organisers). |
SESSIONS ON "MICROOPTICS AND MICROPHOTONICS"
![]() |
Are taking place on 11th of October 2001. |
![]() |
Are organised by the "Centre of Microphotonics" (a laboratory from IMT-Bucharest, in co-operation with "Politehnica" University of Bucharest) headed by Dana Cristea (danac@imt.ro). This unit is sponsored by a Romanian grant for Centres of Excellence. |
WORKSHOP ON "MICRO- AND NANO-TECHNOLOGIES FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS"
![]() |
It takes place on 11th and 12th of October 2001. |
![]() |
It is organised under the aegis of the International Society for BioMEMS and BioNanotechnology (ISBBN), by the Centre for Bioengineering, the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio (Mauro Ferrari, Nicanor Moldovan), Bar-Ilan Univ., Ramat-Gan, Israel (Motti Deutsch), and IMT-Bucharest (D. Dascalu, dascalu@imt.ro). |

"Biomedical Microdevices" (Editor-in-Chief Mauro Ferrari) will publish selected papers. |
![]() |
The participation is still open for both invited and contributed papers (selected by the organisers). |
SATELLITE EVENT OF CAS 2001:
WORKSHOP "EUROPEAN CO-OPERATION IN MICRO- AND NANO-TECHNOLOGIES"
![]() |
It takes place on 12th of October 2001. |
![]() |
It is organised by the Ministry of Education and Research (Romania). |
![]() |
It illustrates the policy of the European Commission and national policies (France, Greece, Italy, Romania, and Switzerland) in micro- and nano-technologies. |
