The 2001 International Semiconductor Conference (CAS 2001) - former Annual Semiconductor Conference - is the 24th of an annual sequence and is the 11th edition with international participation.
The aim of the conference is two-fold. First, it provides a forum of debate on selected topics of sientific research and technological development. On the other hand, this is an occasion for refreshing a broad perspective of the participants through invited papers and tutorials.
Contributions in solid-state devices and (sub)systems are called in the following domains.
Semiconductor device physics and technology
device modelling and simulation, silicon and compound semiconductor devices,
heterostructures, advanced materials and processes, reliability and defect engineering;
Design and technology of microelectronic components
microelectronic, microphotonic and microwave integrated subsystems, devices and modules
for power control and conversion, specialized electronic circuits integrated in the
microelectronic technology, testing and reliability;
Simulation and fabrication of microstructures and microsystems
surface and bulk micromachining, microengineering techniques, electro-opto-mechanical
microsystems, microsensor and actuator integration, signal processing, computational
intelligence and system interfacing;
Science and technology of nanostructures and nanostructured
materials
composite nanoparticles and nanostructures with selective properties, nanostructures and
nanostructured materials with special properties.
The CAS 2001 edition will have a special focus on the following areas:
Devices for microwave and optical communication
Micro and nanotechnologies for bio-medical applications
Computer-aided simulation and design of microstructures and
microsystems
Power semiconductor devices
The contributed and invited papers will be published in the CAS 2001 Proceedings, which will be delivered to the participants at the beginning of the conference.
CAS 2001 program will consist in contributed (structured in oral or poster sessions) and invited papers. In oral sessions authors may use standard slides (5x5 cm2 overall size) or transparencies (max. 25x25 cm2). The presentation should not exceed 20 minutes (contributed papers) and 40 minutes (invited papers), discussion included. For poster sessions authors may use any materials within a 96x96 cm2 panel.
The program will include a Student Papers Session. The best paper is to be awarded by EDS Chapter. To be eligible, the paper must be based on the students own work and the authors should mention (in the Pre-Registration Form) their option to be registered in this session.
A workshop on "Micro and Nanotechnologies for Bio- -medical Applications" will be jointly organized as part of the conference with the International Society for BioMEMS and Biomedical Nanotechnology, (President: Prof. Mauro Ferrari, Editor-in-Chief of Biomedical Microdevices), based on Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. The extenteded version of a number of selected papers will be presented in a special issue of "Biomedical Microdevices" (Guest Editor: Prof. Dan Dascalu).
The third International MEMSWAVE Workshop, on "Micromachined Circuits for Microwave and Millimetre Waves" (a satellite event of CAS), will be organized on 9th of October 2001, in the same place. The papers presented at the workshop will published in a special issue of the "Romanian Journal for the Information Science and Technology".
Contributed papers will be selected on the basis of a four pages paper, structured and printed according to the IEEE format (4 pages A4, two columns, including a 50 words summary, figures and references); original + 3 hard copies are requested. The authors should send the file of the paper by e-mail (or on a diskette), in Microsoft Word format and the hard copies by mail,too.
The papers will be printed by direct reproduction (photo-offset). The authors should print the papers, in very good contrast conditions ("Times New Roman" type font, 11pt. size are recommended), on A4 size bond paper, with 2.5 cm top, left and right margins and 3.5 cm bottom margin. For details, the authors should consult "A Guide for CAS Papers Authors" in the INTERNET web page of the conference.
The invited papers (10 pages A4, two columns, including a 50 words summary, figures and references) will be printed in the format given for the contributed papers. Original + one hard copy are requested. The invited speakers should send the file of the paper by e-mail (or on a diskette), too.
April 15th, 2001 -Submission of the contributed and invited papers.
June 15th, 2001- Notification of the final acceptance of contributed papers.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE : English
LOCATION - CAS 2001 will be held in Sinaia - "the Pearl of Carpathian Mountains" - which is located at about 120km North-West from Bucharest. Sinaia, the traditional place where CAS is held, is a beautiful mountain resort offering a magnificent autumn view during the conference. The participants are offered the opportunity to visit the splendid Swiss-like town, with its famous Peles Castle and the Casino, and also to make trips in the mountains or to the Bran (Draculas) Castle.
PRE-REGISTRATION FORM- The participants will send the Pre-Registration Form (together with the paper) not later than April 15th, 2001.
REGISTRATION FORM- Participants must register in advance and reserve accommodation. The payment formalities for accommodation will be carried out on their arrival at Sinaia, Romania, at the CAS 2001 Secretariat.The Registration Form will be sent, with the final notification, to all the authors, as well as to all persons who sent the Pre-Registration Form in due time, or on request.
Conference Fee includes: participation in all sessions, CAS Welcome Cocktail and Banquet, as well as the CAS 2001 Proceedings. Conference Fee does not include: accommodation, meals and transport.
