The APEC 2005 MicroMouse Contest Popular with APEC attendees as always!

The Contest

APEC 2006 will be hosting its Twentieth(!) annual MicroMouse contest at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, Texas the evening of Monday, March 20 starting at approximately 8:00 PM.

Prizes

In honor of the twentieth anniversary, the cash prizes have been substantially increased this year. Two categories will be awarded, an open category and a student category. First, second, and third place prizes in both categories, based on the score of the mouse, will consist of US$500, US$250, and US$125 respectively, as well as an attractive trophy. To encourage mice that may not be fast but are reliable, any registered team whose mouse reaches the center of the maze will receive an award of US$500. Last but not least, the mouse that makes the fastest individual run of the day will receive a prize of US$500 and a trophy.

The Rules

The rules for the contest use a scoring system with a penalty for the time taken to map and run the maze, and a bonus for not touching the mouse. They are similar to those used at the IEE World Final held in London in 1987 except that the touch penalty has been reduced from 10 seconds to 3 seconds. The time for each contestant has also been reduced from 15 to 10 minutes. Within this time limit, the MicroMouse may make up to 10 runs.

Teams with multiple entries will only be eligible for one first, second, or third place prize. Student teams are eligible for prizes in both the student and open category, but they can only take one prize. All pre-registered mice that finish will receive a customized certificate. It is not necessary for contestants to register for the conference in order to compete.
