Abstract :
GTO thyristors are used as a rule in controlled high power
converters. Large area GTO main performances and GTO turn-off failure
mechanism are presented. This failure of GTO could be explained by the
segment current concentration in the outer rings of device structure.
Short-circuit current protection in high power electronic equipment using
these devices is given. Some comments on GTO installation in power
converters are discussed.
