Abstract :
Universal motor speed control can be performed with dedicated linear
IC or with real-time microcontroller (MCU). Linear ICs have been
widely used, but MCU control systems give users new flexibility and
interesting features. This solution is first analysed and a complete
solution using a 2nd generation MCU driver and a triac is detailed.
Hints on how to choose the right triac for phase control are given
to the reader in order to assure faultless processing and to
increase reliability.
