Abstract :
Electric motors on offer in the market tend towards small and miniature sizes, for use as
servo- and positional motors, as well as for a variety of applications in equipment and
instrumentation. Treated here mainly are single-phasemotors. Construction and drive
requirements are discussed in terms of specific applications. Types of motors, briefly
discussed, are: induction, with starting or auxiliary phase; split pole with short circuited
auxiliary phase; universal types; synchronous; hysteresis, magnetic or reluctance; stepping;
and d.c. motors with PM excitation.
